The Wu-Xia Historical Martial Arts Theater is a custom-made movie theater located on the campus of Chinese Culture University (CCU) in Beijing. It is one of only a handful of movie theaters in China specifically built for the presentation of Chinese martial arts films. Wu-Xia is one of the oldest Chinese martial arts movie theaters, and one of the few left in China today. The theater was designed and built by Wu-Xia, based on the design of an ancient martial arts theater created by the Song Dynasty Chinese literati Wu Qi. Wu Qi's theater had been visited by Emperor Wu of Liang in the early Song Dynasty and was described in detail by Ouyang Xiu, one of China's greatest literary figures. When Wu-Xia was created, the theater was intended to house the "one-armed swordsman trilogy". The artistic names for the films that the theater shows are Wuxia: A Touch of Zen, A Legend in a Dream, and Thunderstorm in the Sun. Wu Qi's theater is thought to have been built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, in 612. It was said to be a palace of Martial Arts, where story-tellers would perform their tales in the evenings. Later it was used as a guardhouse and jail. However, during the Ming dynasty, a Taoist temple was built inside.
